Scripture: Psalm 124:1–3, 8
Song: Goodness of God — Bethel Music / Jenn Johnson
Gratitude becomes deep when you stop thanking God only for what you can count, and start thanking Him for what you cannot measure. Psalm 124 is the language of someone who knows they were preserved. “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side…” means the real testimony is not just that you escaped, but that you escaped when escape was not guaranteed.
Some years do not look like celebration. They look like survival. Yet survival is not small. Preservation is not common. Many outcomes you feared did not happen, not because you were stronger, but because God stood on your side. And the psalm ends with a bold conclusion: our help is in the name of the Lord, Maker of heaven and earth. That means your story did not continue because life was gentle, but because God was faithful.
Meditation: What is one thing that could have ruined you this year, but God did not allow it?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for being on my side. Thank You for silent rescues and unseen protection.
Response: Today, write one paragraph titled “If the Lord was not on my side,” and let it become worship.
